Nomad Shubham, also known as Shubham Kumar, hails from a small village in Bihar, India. Despite his humble beginnings, he has embarked on remarkable journeys, traveling to approximately 20 Asian countries and crossing the continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa—all before the age of 19 or 20.
One of his most notable adventures involved traveling from India to Africa by land, predominantly hitchhiking. In addition to his global exploits, he has explored 19 states within India.
Nomad Shubham’s journey took an unexpected turn in 2017. Originally a 16-year-old student attending coaching classes in Kota, a city in northern India known for preparing students for prestigious college entrance exams, he had aspirations of a traditional path to success. Raised in a family with modest means, his initial goal was to study hard, work diligently, and use his savings to explore the world.
However, everything changed when he stumbled upon a YouTube video titled “How to travel the world with almost no money” during a study break. The video, a TEDx talk by travel vlogger Tomislav Perko, emphasized the possibilities of hitchhiking and inspired Nomad Shubham to venture into the unknown.
His first hitchhiking experience took him from Kota to Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan, covering over 673 kilometers. The exhilaration of that journey ignited a passion within him, and he knew he couldn’t stop exploring.
Nomad Shubham’s story is a testament to how a simple YouTube video can alter the course of one’s life, transforming a student from a small village into a globetrotter with a thirst for adventure.
