What is the story of Shaitaan?(2024)
Kabir, a chartered accountant, decides to take his family on a farmhouse holiday. His family includes his daughter Janvi, who is in class 10, his playful eight-year-old son Dhruv, and his wife Jyoti.
During their journey to the farmhouse, a stranger named Vanraj kidnaps Kabir’s daughter Janvi. To Kabir’s horror, Vanraj also ends up at their farmhouse.
Now, Kabir must confront this stranger and rescue his daughter, all while trying to protect his family from danger. The situation becomes tense as Kabir races against time to save Janvi and ensure the safety of his loved ones.
Jhanvi gets trapped under a spell of black magic, making her obey every command of Vanraj, who claims to be like a god. Vanraj insists that Kabir and Jyoti let him take Jhanvi away with him. The main question is whether Vanraj’s scheme will work or not. The plot revolves around Kabir’s struggle to break the spell on his daughter and save her from Vanraj’s control. It’s a battle between good and evil, where Kabir fights to protect his family from the clutches of darkness.

How are the screenplay and dialogues?
Before the intermission, most of the film was spent in showing vashikaran. Jhanvi obeys as Vanraj says. She even breaks her brother’s head. She slaps her father. She also opens the zip of her neckerchief. It makes one aware of its power. Scenes like Dhruv editing the video, Jyoti hiding her mobile in a rice box indicate that they will be useful in dealing with the villain. The story keeps you engaged in the first half. It falters after the intermission.
Many questions related to Vanraj’s character remain unanswered. Like why does he think of taking Jhanvi away? Why does he need Kabir and Jyoti’s permission to take Jhanvi after Vashikaran? Vanraj had earlier captured 107 teenage girls. Does everyone have parental permission?
How is the acting of the actors?
R Madhavan, seen in a negative role for the first time, impresses in the beginning. When his character comes in the form of a Tantrik, the grip becomes weak. He does not appear monstrous, which his character demands. The role of a good and helpless father is not new for Ajay. Here also he is comfortable in it.
There is very little dialogue on Jyotika’s part. The scene of his confrontation with Vanraj is good. Janaki Bodhiwala, who became Janvi, also acted in the original film. Her performance in the role of Jhanvi, who obeys every order like a puppet, is commendable. He has maintained a balance between vashikaran and being normal.
The work of child artist Angad Raj is noteworthy. The background music of the film does not seem to be very helpful in increasing the fear and tension. Shaitan based on Vashikaran is not able to completely control after the interval due to weak screenplay.
